Why Plan with Us
Beyond the Baobab is not your typical agency. It is a husband and wife team who both fell deeply in love with Botswana's wilderness and made a decision to share that passion with the world.
" We do not design safaris from behind a desk. We design them from experience, with the same care and intention we would give our own."

THE CO-FOUNDERS
Meet the People Designing Your Safari
We’re James and Kristy Briscoe, the husband-and-wife team behind Beyond the Baobab.
We live in Botswana and spend much of our time travelling through the country — visiting camps, meeting guides, exploring concessions and continually learning what makes each safari area different.
When you plan with Beyond the Baobab, you deal directly with us. There is no call centre, no generic itinerary and no handover to someone who has never experienced the places they are recommending.
Your safari is designed by people who genuinely know Botswana.

ROOTED IN BOTSWANA
The Insider Advantage
Because we live and operate in Botswana, we design journeys around what is actually happening on the ground — not simply what looks good in a brochure. Our recommendations are shaped by personal experience, relationships with camps and guides, and a deep understanding of how the different safari areas work together.
-
Botswana is not a destination we sell from overseas; it is our chosen home. Together, we have built a life centered around this extraordinary wilderness.
-
We regularly visit the lodges and regions we recommend. Every safari is drawn from first-hand knowledge and deep local relationships built over decades.
-
We design itineraries that are deeply personal. Your journey is built around your specific wildlife priorities, travel style, and pace—not what is trending.
-
Being based in Botswana means our commitment does not end when you book. We provide real-time logistical support and hidden local insights for a truly seamless adventure.
The Journey, Through Their Eyes
NO TWO BOTSWANA SAFARIS LOOK THE SAME
Tell Us What Matters to You
Some guests come to Botswana determined to photograph wild dogs. Others want the silence of a mokoro through the Delta, their children's first safari, an extraordinary honeymoon or simply a few days completely removed from ordinary life. We start with what matters to you and build the journey from there.

Planning a Botswana Safari
Designing a bespoke expedition to Africa naturally brings up questions. Here are the essentials.

Beyond the Baobab is based in Botswana and offers independent advice across a wide range of camps and safari operators. We regularly visit the areas and properties we recommend, so our advice is based on first-hand knowledge. We also coordinate the entire journey, including camps, light aircraft flights, road transfers and private arrangements.
-
A seven-night fly-in Botswana safari can start from around USD 6,000 per person in selected lower-season periods and rise considerably in peak season or at more exclusive camps. The final cost depends on season, camp choice, number of nights and internal flights. Every itinerary we prepare is bespoke and clearly costed.
-
Most Botswana safari camps include accommodation, meals, beverages, scheduled safari activities and local airstrip transfers. Park fees, conservation levies and internal flights may be included or charged separately depending on the camp. We make all inclusions and additional costs clear in your proposal.
-
Maun and Kasane are Botswana’s main safari gateways, with many international travellers connecting through Johannesburg or other regional hubs. From there, most guests continue to remote camps by light aircraft. Beyond the Baobab arranges the regional flights, bush flights and transfers as part of the itinerary.
-
There is no single best month. June to October is the traditional dry and peak safari season, while November to March brings the green season, dramatic landscapes, newborn animals and excellent birding. We recommend the best time based on the wildlife, activities and style of safari you want.
-
Most first-time itineraries combine two or three contrasting areas. These may include the Okavango Delta, Chobe, Linyanti or Savuti, and the Makgadikgadi Pans or Central Kalahari. We focus on combining regions that complement each other rather than simply choosing the most famous names.
-
Seven to ten nights is an excellent starting point for a first safari. This usually allows for around three nights in each of two or three different areas. We generally prefer three-night stays because two nights can feel rushed once travel between camps is taken into account.
-
Yes. Botswana is ideal for travellers who value wilderness, excellent guiding, small camps and lower vehicle densities. It also offers a wide range of experiences beyond game drives, including boating, mokoro excursions and walking safaris.
-
Absolutely, but the choice of camp is important. Age restrictions vary between properties and activities, while some camps offer family rooms, villas, private vehicles and flexible schedules. We match families with camps that suit the children’s ages and the type of safari they want.
-
Botswana is one of Africa’s finest honeymoon destinations, offering privacy, beautiful small camps and exceptional wilderness. Many properties offer experiences such as private dining, scenic flights, sleep-outs and private vehicles. We usually recommend combining two or three contrasting camps for a more varied journey.
-
A traditional fly-in safari is generally not physically demanding. Most wildlife viewing takes place by vehicle, boat or mokoro, with walking safaris and other active experiences available for those who want them. We can also advise on suitable camps for guests with mobility considerations.
-
For peak-season travel between roughly June and October, we recommend booking around nine to twelve months in advance where possible. Botswana’s best camps are often small, so specific dates and properties can fill quickly. Shorter-notice trips are still very possible, especially in shoulder and green seasons.
-
Private concessions generally offer lower vehicle density and may allow activities such as off-road driving, night drives and walking. National parks and reserves such as Moremi and Chobe have different rules but can offer exceptional wildlife viewing. We often combine both for a more varied safari.
-
Location matters as much as the camp itself. Some areas focus more on game drives and predators, while others offer stronger water-based activities such as boating and mokoro excursions. We recommend camps based on season, wildlife, activities, guiding and how they fit with the rest of your itinerary.
-
Yes. We arrange camps, internal light aircraft flights, road transfers, private vehicles, guides and specialist experiences. We can also combine Botswana with destinations such as Victoria Falls, South Africa, Zambia or Zimbabwe. You deal with one point of contact while we coordinate the journey.
